Butte College will celebrate Black History Month with an interactive educational campaign throughout its main campus and Chico and Glenn Centers and a series of in-person events that will take place throughout February. The theme for this year's campaign is "Black Heritage."
The college will host a variety of events at the main campus throughout February, including film screenings, student panels and guest speakers. A kick-off celebration will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 1, at noon at the campus center lounge.
In addition to the in-person events, Butte College will also launch an interactive educational campaign. The campaign will feature profiles of Black Americans who have made significant contributions to the arts, science, mathematics, literature and athletics. Posters will be on display at locations throughout the college. When scanned by a mobile device, the QR code on the posters will launch an interactive webpage highlighting notable figures in the fields taught at that particular location.
Butte College's Black History Month celebration is an opportunity for the college community to come together to learn, grow and celebrate the diversity of our society. The college encourages everyone to attend and participate in these events and the interactive educational campaign as we honor the contributions of Black Americans and work towards a more inclusive and equitable society.
The events were organized by Butte College's IDEA office, Umoja, the Culture and Community Center, and Black Voices. A full calendar is available at smcun.com/calendars.
